Latexing & Floor Levelling
A great tiling job starts long before the first tile goes down. Latexing and floor levelling is all about getting the base right, so your finished floor looks neat, feels solid underfoot, and lasts.
Floor levelling is the process of smoothing and correcting an uneven subfloor before tiling. We typically use a professional self-levelling compound (often called “latex” or “levelling compound”) to create a flat, stable surface.
If a floor has dips, high spots, old adhesive, or patchy repairs, tiles can end up rocking, cracking, or looking uneven. Levelling helps prevent those issues.

When you might need it
Latexing and floor levelling is commonly needed when:
Your existing floor is uneven, wavy, or has noticeable dips
Old flooring has been removed and the surface is rough or patchy
You’re tiling over concrete or screed that isn’t perfectly flat
You’re fitting large-format tiles (these need a flatter base)
You want a better finish with cleaner grout lines and fewer lipping edges
What we do
Every floor is different, so we start by checking the condition of the subfloor and what it’s made from. From there, we’ll recommend the right preparation and levelling approach.
Typical steps include:
Assessing the floor for flatness, strength, and suitability for tiling
Preparing the surface (cleaning, removing contaminants, and addressing weak areas)
Priming where required so the levelling compound bonds properly
Applying levelling compound to achieve the right finish and tolerance
Allowing correct curing time before tiling begins
We will help you to ideate, design and implement

What we’ll need from you
To quote accurately, it helps if you can share:
The approximate size of the area (length x width)
What the current floor is (concrete, screed, timber, existing tiles, etc.)
Any known issues (movement, damp, cracks, previous leaks)
Your tile choice (especially if large-format)
If you’re not sure, don’t worry we can guide you through it, or we’ll book an appointment to schedule a visit in person.
Our approach
We keep things straightforward: we’ll explain what needs doing, why it matters, and what’s included. No jargon, no guesswork — just a properly prepared base that gives your tiling the best possible start.
